The bulk of the North Welsh are 3Pk or Fast Pike in DBA 3.0. They are deployed in two ranks and the front rank is better equipped.

The rest of the North Welsh army in DBA 3.0 s a single element of archers (2Ps). They can take a South Welsh ally, for which I need to paint another 3Cv. This gives them some 3Lb and some 3Ax.

Under DBA 2.2 I worked out the following alternative army lists.

  • Alternative Army Lists

  • North Welsh

1 x 3Cv or 3Kn (cmd)
1  x 2Ps (Javelinmen)
6-10 x 3Sp (NW Spearmen)
0-2 x 3Bw or 2Ps ( NW Archers)
0-2 3Ax or 4Bd (Irish mercenary allies)
0-1 3Kn (Marcher allies)

  • South Welsh

1 x 3Cv or 3Kn (cmd)
1 x 2Ps (Javelinmen)
6-8 x 3Bw or 2Ps (SW Archers)
2 3 x Wb (SW Spearmen)
0-2 3Ax or 4Bd (Irish mercenary allies)
0-1 x 3Kn (Marcher allies)

The Irish allies should be used with 3Cv and can’t be used with the Marcher allies. This is pretty much the same as the DBA list, apart from the option of Irish or Marcher Lord allies, and the very significant ability to chose whether archers are 3Bw or 2Ps.
